Last Saturday, Sam and I drove down old Virginia country roads to celebrate Mike + Sarah’s Wedding Day!
When we pulled up, we saw this super cute girl with a long blonde ponytail pulled through her ball cap. In the hottest part of the midday, she was transporting boxes with her dad from an old farmhouse across a field towards an old white barn.
I love this part about our job as Wedding Photographers. We get to see the behind the scenes ‘labor of love’ come together and we got to see Sarah in her element. She’s a do-it-yourself kinda girl-boss who’s not afraid to get her hands dirty to get the job done right. She’s a sweetheart, a really hard worker, and she’s not afraid to be herself and chug chocolate milk straight from the container MINUTES before walking down the aisle. (Yes, that happened and it was awesome!)
While we waited for the boys to arrive to the property and Sarah waited her turn to shower, she sat with us on the front porch and we got to hear her recount the way she and Mike met.
Sarah + Mike met at a family reunion. Thankfully, it wasn’t their own! They both attended as friends of the family throwing the reunion and are NOT related to each other whatsoever!!
As far as they know, they weren’t being set up and their paths crossed by crazy coincidence at this cookout. Sarah didn’t want to date long distance, but Mike persisted and convinced her to give him a shot. And as they say, the rest is history.
Mike and his mom were so sweet together! She just wanted to hug her boy!
Love this photo of Sarah’s Mom and Dad! We asked them to pose for a quick picture right before Mom pinned on her husband’s boutonnière. All of the sunflowers were either grown locally or by Sarah herself on the farm.
Almost Ceremony time!
I loved Sarah’s fitted lace dress, her fishtail braid, and her grandmother’s necklace, but I especially loved her taste in chocolate milk! Nothing soothes pre-ceremony nerves like a cold drink, am I right?! Sarah comes from several generations specializing in beef and dairy cows, so your girl knows quality chocolate dairy! Their family even MAKES ice cream and served it at their reception with apple pie!!
With nothing around but hills and countryside, this ceremony spot was beautiful! Guests arrived and were seated under a patch of tall trees right between the house and the reception area by the barn.
These ‘Just Married’ moments in the recessional are hands down our favorite part of the day! Those excited cheers and smiles are the genuine and joyful emotions we can’t get enough of!!
We also LOVE fun bridal parties! 🙂 This crew was hilarious!
A man and his dog is a beautiful thing!
Some of our favorites!!! Have you ever seen a YELLOW John Deere Tractor before?!
We purposely did our photography route leading the newlyweds to the barn-side reception. Guests were already at their seats and you could hear them hootin’ and whistling in the distance as we drew nearer.
One last “slightly dipped” kiss before they walked hand in hand towards their friends and family.
The rest of the night went by in a quick blur of hugs and good company. We noticed some lightning in the distance…but thought nothing of it.
Moving into dances at dusk, there were a few glitches with the sound system. Sam quickly ran to grab our JEEP and we blared music through the car’s speakers. By the time it was Mike + Sarah’s first dance, the reception speakers were working and the crowd started dancing!
MAYBE 5 minutes in to dancing, an announcement was made over the microphone that a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM was about to hit us and that we should run to our cars. It was insane! Very suddenly (and unexpectedly) the wind picked up and was blowing tablecloths and plastic bags everywhere. People ran to their cars and squeezed inside the barn as the storm crashed the party!
As rain was blowing in sheets , we gave hurried goodbye hugs to the newlyweds and bridal party members who managed to run undercover with arms full of food and alcohol. What a wild end to a fantastic wedding!
Mike + Sarah,
WOW! What an amazing Wedding Day! We feel so honored to have been a part of this with you guys! You two have something truly special and it was so fun to joke around with you and your bridal party! We wish you endless years of goofing off together, working side by side as a team, and hanging out on the front porch. We love that you guys honored tradition in so many ways, and we loved seeing how much your families and friends love you together as a couple! After this day, it’s pretty clear that your marriage can weather any storm (or heat!!) We love you guys!
Love,
The Tuckers
