Brian + Julia | Wedding at the John Marshall Ballroom

January 3, 2020

Julia + Brian are MARRIED!! Last Friday, these joyful newlyweds gathered their friends and family to celebrate right here in Richmond, Virginia!

Everyone got ready downtown Marriott Hotel and it’s our new favorite location for brides to get ready! The big suites have amazing window light and city views!

Julia was just glowing all day! The girls laughed over childhood memories while they put the final touches on Julia.

This is a huge reason we always make sure our photography timeline has plenty of un-rushed, uninterrupted time for the Bride to get ready, so that these little moments can happen naturally.

Getting in your dress is likely the first time when it all starts to feel REAL!

Julia was so elegant and timeless!!

Brian and his Groomsmen got ready just one floor below. They also had a very relaxed morning hanging out while they prepared for the day.

One thing we really, really love about Brian + Julia is how close they are with their families!! Spending this day seeing how lovingly they all interacted was so sweet!!

First Look with Dad was a tearful one!!

Brian has the sweetest relationship with his Mom, so they also did a First Look with each other!!

Then Dad escorted Julia to her First Look with Brian.

It feels like a traditional spin on a non-traditional First Look and it’s so fun to include the Dad’s for one extra experience.

For a winter wedding, we were extra thankful for almost 60 degree weather! Throughout the day it was a little rainy, but miraculously the one hour we had planned to be at the Virginia State Capitol taking pictures, the rain completely stopped and we got to take all the pictures we wanted with time to spare!!

How They Met

These two are a Match.com success story!! They talked for several weeks online before deciding to finally meet in person at Jack Browns burger restaurant in Richmond! They easily bonded over their shared love for The Office and Parks and Rec, actually spending much their first date quoting favorite lines and laughing together. They continued to grow in friendship and love after several weeks of dates around downtown Richmond, the Altria theater, and Charlottesville.

We have also really enjoyed cheering on the rival sports teams of the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions, as well as the North Carolina Hurricanes and the Detroit Red Wings! Some of our favorite nights are spent at the Diamond supporting the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Throughout our time together, we have traveled to North Carolina, Ohio, Florida, Michigan, Toronto, and West Virginia.

One of my favorite pose prompts is to ask our couples to wish each other a Happy Wedding Day. It’s so simple and maybe a little cheesy, but the reactions that follow are so genuinely full of joy and love!

What a beautiful group of friends!!

How He Proposed

On January 18, 2019, Brian proposed at Snowshoe Ski Resort in West Virginia. Brian planned it all out! He took Julia to the middle of The Village area and proposed! It was a special location where he instructed family members to log on to the resort website and watch the proposal happen via their live feed web cameras!

(Proposal images are borrowed from their Wedding Website!)

St. Michaels Catholic Church was a beautiful setting for their Wedding Ceremony!

Julia’s choir group was AMAZING! It was so special that they all were able to be guests and have a special role at the Ceremony. The couple also brought in a Deaf Interpreter so that members of Brian’s family could partake in the singing and praying.

Everyone then headed over to the John Marshall Ballrooms for Cocktail Hour and a beautiful Reception!

Blush tones were sprinkled throughout the decor and lighting. Julia even requested that the venue wait on putting away their Christmas decorations for one more day!

Their beloved dog Sydnee was the inspiration for their signature drink and pictures of her from their Engagement Session were all over the tables!

The rest of the evening was spent dancing and having a blast with their favorite people!

Brian + Julia,

Just WOW, you guys. What a beautiful day to kick off what’s sure to be an incredible marriage!! We are so thankful to have been a part of your cheer squad behind the scenes! You two are truly the real deal and we’re so happy that God brought you both together. It’s evident that God works through dating apps – just imagine how beautifully He will impact your marriage! You guys are already such a strong team that knows and chooses joy, and we can’t wait to watch you grow even deeper roots together as THE WRIGHTS! We love you guys!! HAPPY HONEYMOONIN! 🙂

Love,

The Tuckers

Learn about our approach

We mean it when we say "Experience First, Photography Second." When you feel at ease, fully present, and well-cared for, the result is imagery that is both beautifully candid and happy memories that your loved ones will talk about for years.

Our role goes beyond documenting. We create an atmosphere where you can relax, connect, and celebrate, allowing us to capture moments as they naturally unfold. The laughter, the quiet exchanges, the joy of family gathered together - these are the details and moments we know matter.

After a decade as photographers, we have learned that beautiful photos begin with your experience
